Anime Composite
Anime characters are placed into filmed streets—tree-lined paths, a shopping arcade, a crosswalk and a residential block—so that figure and location share the same light and camera movement.
Background / Goal
This 43-second video uses filmed streets as its base and places different anime characters inside everyday urban spaces, with the main work going into perspective, light and movement between figure and location. The available material does not specify the original brief, the source of the anime material or the intended use; what the finished video makes clear is the aim of making 2D characters feel physically present in these streets.
Process
- Chose each location for a different spatial job: the tree-lined path establishes distance, the shopping arcade uses warm light and closer framing, and the crosswalk and residential block place the character within pedestrian flow and street depth.
- Matched ground contact, edge light and direction of movement so that feet, occlusion and camera displacement all sit within the same space.
- Kept the colour temperature of each filmed location instead of flattening every shot to one grade, which prevents the scenes from reading as the same backdrop.
- Built the pace through changes of location rather than explaining every shot, using continuous spatial shifts to keep the edit moving.
Outcome / Highlights
The strongest result is the way several everyday locations form a continuous route for the character, with scale holding between close and wide shots. Rather than reading as a sticker placed on top of the footage, the figure enters each street through contact shadow, ambient colour and camera movement. The file includes an AAC track, but that source track is digital silence (about -91 dB); the web version keeps it, muted by default, with a manual sound toggle.
About the Work
This work is from my earlier portfolio and is included here. The video keeps its original audio and is muted by default; sound can be enabled manually.
