Unboxing the Monster
A portrait poster that treats a monster’s open mouth as the mouth of a blind box, spilling dice, hearts, skulls and lightning across a black-and-white checkerboard.
Background / Goal
The poster turns unboxing into a visual eruption: a pink, three-eyed monster opens its mouth and a stream of objects spills onto a black-and-white checkerboard floor. The available material does not specify the Chinese title, intended placement or original brief; visually, the main task is to make the monster and the contents of the box readable in a single action.
Process
- Placed the monster’s head in the upper half and used its three symmetrical eyes as the first point of attention, then turned the mouth into an outlet that spreads downward.
- Fanned the objects out along one direction, separating dice, lips, hearts, a skull and lightning by colour so they do not collapse into a single mass.
- Alternated black and white checkerboard bands in the background while keeping the foreground saturated, creating two distinct layers of rhythm.
- Set the title across the bottom in two heavy lines so it shares the same hard-edged visual language as the shapes above.
Outcome / Highlights
The finished poster tells the sequence “monster, open mouth, contents spill out” within a single frame, so the unboxing relationship reads without extra explanation. The black-and-white ground pushes the coloured objects forward, while the English title at the bottom gives the composition a stable landing point.
